About Katherine Weed Cortright
I have facilitated education for peace and social equity as a transformative classroom teacher in elementary and middle school. I am seeking an opportunity to learn and grow with a creative community of Montessori leaders. I am an experienced educator prepared in effectively teaching diverse learners. I was educated at Michigan State University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the Honors College. I became a member of the Global Educators Cohort Program, which afforded me the opportunity to study with education leaders in China and through language immersion in Spain. I was chosen as a Fulbright Hays Scholar in Tanzania where I studied culturally responsive teaching and responsible representation of modern Africa. I worked as a research assistant at the College of Education, analyzing data gathered from a premier research university and presented at the American Educational Research Association. I finished my formative years of education as a finalist for Intern of the Year for the State of Michigan. I began my career as a First Grade Teacher, leading 28 first graders to develop numeracy and complete the monumental milestone of learning to read. I became a military spouse and moved to Charleston, SC where I have continued teaching Language Arts and Science at the middle school level. I was awarded Teacher of the Month twice while at Oakbrook Middle School. I have also been qualified to teach students who are Gifted and Talented and speak languages other than English.While in South Carolina, I became a certified instructor with Dale Carnegie Training, helping others to become leaders in their own professions. Most recently, I have been working to complete my certification as an Elementary I Montessori teacher at Seacoast Montessori Center.I will continue to learn and educate others. I prioritize peaceful and rigorous learning and hope to build a better world through the education of our youth.
