Having volunteered for Bellingcat for a while, I have been brought on as a consultant.

Various data analysis, management and quality functions, including development of reports and adjustment of business processes to enhance quality, with an emphasis on using data for decision-making. Data governance work includes overseeing the capturing of data dictionaries.Focus on moving the company from a reliance on institutional memory to documentation of knowledge and processes.Provision of support across departments to enhance data quality and meet client requirements.Management of data sourcing to try to expand the company’s coverage of African healthcare providers, including data cleaning.Assessment and choice of technology for knowledge base, documentation of business processes and preparation of knowledge base content. Developed strategies to enhance use of the knowledge base.Maintenance and optimisation of lists of values (LOVs) and reference data.

Consulting work has included primary and secondary research on digital financial services and financial inclusion, writing on big data for development, research on the potential of mHealth for informal workers, assessment of delivery against an mHealth grant, and mHealth content preparation.

Was project manager on planning for the integration of national TB data collection into the national HIV data collection system in public facilities in South Africa. Work included stakeholder management, communications, budgets, project planning, writing, and client consultation.Other work at Vital Wave included research into digital financial systems for financial inclusion, and data for development.

Managed a team designing and implementing various mhealth (mobile health) projects aiming to impact HIV prevention and treatment, and sexual and reproductive health.Undertook mhealth needs assessments and oversaw development of mobile applications to meet those needs.Designed and did user testing.Managed funder relationships including liaison, budgeting and reports.Liaison with government and other stakeholders.Did research (2 published studies). Was co-PI on a randomised controlled trial into medical abortion.

Worked in the Social Aspects of HIV and AIDS Research Alliance (SAHARA) and Policy Analysis Unit. Oversaw redevelopment of the SAHARA website, and strategised and oversaw development of the Policy Action Network website. Various research dissemination activities.

One of the first projects of its kind in the developing world, the Cape Gateway portal was developed to give easy access to government information to primarily citizens of the Western Cape province.I was initially employed to ensure that appropriate, good-quality, tri-lingual content was gathered and created for the portal in preparation for its launch in March 2004.After launch my role broadened to manage all aspects of the portal, including content, cross-departmental team building, operations management, technical development and budget.

Legalnet is an M-Web joint venture providing access to online legal content to subscribers.I managed a small business unit within a larger organisation, and my responsibilities spanned a range of functions necessary to run the site as a business.

Electric Ocean was one of South Africa’s leading Web development agencies.As Project Manager I managed a team of designers and programmers to take website development projects from conception through development to completion in terms of timeline, workflows, resources and costs.Moved on to the role of Producer, encompassing the Project Manager role as well as client liaison.
