In the spring of 2023, I applied for and was granted the European Summer Research Award (ESRA) from UNC's Contemporary European Studies department. I designed an independent research project around the topic of the energy transition in France. With this funding, I was able to attend conferences across France and at the EU headquarters in Brussels. My initial interest in this topic began after the Russian invasion of Ukraine triggered an energy crisis across the European continent. I was curious to learn more about the solutions that were being implemented across Europe and more specifically in France to deal with energy security. As a part of my research, I was fortunate enough to attend this year's European Sustainability Week at the EU Commission.
