In this role I coordinated the development of a feasibility study into the introduction of a fee-for-service model for the Aboriginal Governance and Management Program (AGMP). The aim of the study was to see whether fee-for-service could extend the programs objectives of providing culturally relevant governance and management support to build the capacity of Aboriginal organisations in the Northern Territory.I also supported the AGMP team to represent APONT on the Northern Territory Closing the Gap Partnership Working Group, in particular providing advice on the implementation of the sector strengthening priority in the NT Implementation Plan for Closing the Gap. I worked in partnership with Aboriginal Medical Services NT (AMSANT) to scope a sector strengthening plan for the Aboriginal Health Sector in the NT.

In this role I was responsible for undertaking a range of research, development and implementation activities to support action across the Northern Territory Government and non-government services to prevent and reduce domestic, family and sexual violence.

Working in the Healing team I was responsible for managing and coordinating the delivery of the Unfinished Business Progress Report to NSW Parliament. In this role I worked with Aboriginal community organisations and government agencies to develop and negotiate content for the report and drive progress against the NSW Government’s commitments to Stolen Generations Survivors in NSW.

Working in the Planning and Coordination team, I was responsible for the coordination of Ministerial and Executive support across Aboriginal Affairs NSW as well as planning and developing the policy refresh of OCHRE, the NSW Government’s community focused plan for Aboriginal affairs.

Working for the Local Decision Making Operations team, I was responsible for coordinating the negotiation of Accords between the NSW government and Aboriginal regional alliances as part of Local Decision Making, an initiative of OCHRE. My responsibilities included leading the coordination of the Barang Regional Alliance Accord Negotiations and providing secretariat support for the NSW Coalition of Aboriginal Regional Alliances (NCARA).

Working for the Care Leaver Records Access Unit, I was responsible for applying strict legislative and government requirements to confidential documents released to clients. Much of this work was in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

Working in this role I managed the Research and Advocacy Team and provided high level advice and research, policy and advocacy support to AAPP’s Executive Committee. I co-authored a research report on prison conditions and the potential for prison reform in Burma, prepared submissions to human rights monitoring mechanisms, press statements, opinion pieces, letters and advocacy papers, reported to regional and international observers on the political and human rights situation and recruited and managed a team of international interns and project staff.

As Consulting Researcher I coordinated the drafting process and finalisation of a best practice handbook on Cambodian NGOs’ engagement with the UN human rights mechanisms. This involved liasing and consulting regional and international stakeholders as well as representing CHRAC at events to build existing networks to advocate for greater collaboration between local NGOs in their engagement with UN treaty bodies.

As Consulting Editor I helped build a network of local human rights NGOs willing to participate in a joint shadow report to be submitted to the UN Human Rights Committee in reply to the list of issues of the committee on Cambodia. I drafted, reviewed and edited the 28 submissions, conducted thorough research on each of the issues and consulted external stakeholders to produce the report. The report was heavily relied on by Human Rights Committee to inform discussion and the concluding observations at the 113th session of the Human Rights Committee in Geneva.

Drafted sections of CHRACs submission to the ICCPR periodic report for Cambodia; assisted in the preparation of funding proposals; drafted press statements; maintained news clippings database; conducted legal and human rights research; and attended local protests as a human rights observer.
