Blank stares and confused expressions of "Oh, that's...nice," is the usual reaction I get when I tell people I am an Accounting major. Although some people may be confused as to why someone would willingly study Accounting, I find that you learn so much more than financial statements when you learn Accounting.Having a job in Accounts Receivable is truly what drew me to Accounting in the first place, and since I started, I haven't looked back. I take what I learn in my classes and apply it to my job to help cement what I have learned, and vice versa. Through this opportunity, I have learned to communicate better, whether through written emails or phone calls and to step up and take initiative to get a project done. Through my college career, I have learned how to manage my time efficiently, to juggle my part-time job, classes, homework, and extracurricular activities. Though this can be stressful at times, I have learned to work under pressure to meet deadlines. Despite the challenges, I have managed to make it on the Dean's List every semester and keep my GPA from falling below 3.8. To do this, I strive to do my best and learn from those around me.Though other people may find Accounting boring and hard, I find that it has many learning opportunities and challenges to help me grow and learn about myself. Therefore, when someone asks me why I chose Accounting, I can answer honestly and tell them that I truly enjoy it and look forward to where it will take me in my professional career.
