Katherine Madden Work Experience Details
  • Lightfoot Sustainable Architecture
    Director
Lightfoot Sustainable Architecture Sep 2017 - Present
    Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Lightfoot Sustainable Architecture was inspired by an old Aboriginal proverb "Touch this earth lightly". With a simple philosophy that the built environment should connect to its surrounds in such a way as to positively influence rather than detract from the environment in which they are placed: it should regenerate humans and non-humans.
  • Hassell
    Sustainable Design Lead
    Hassell Dec 2023 - Apr 2024
    Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Hassell, Australia's largest Architectural practice with offices around the globe, have set ambitious targets around their sustainability framework. Which includes an approach that all projects are to be regenerative by 2030. Moving beyond the current sustainable mindset of "doing less bad", regenerative design has a long lasting and positive impact on both humans and non-humans. Part of my role at Hassell was to implement their Sustainability and Regenerative Design framework across various design teams, input into strategy sessions, and prepare supporting evidence documents and develop an upskilling training strategy.
  • Royal Institute Of The Architects Of Ireland (Riai)
    Climate Change Advisor
Royal Institute Of The Architects Of Ireland (Riai) Jul 2022 - Nov 2023
The Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI), as Ireland's Architectural peak body plays an important role in supporting, educating and advocating for its members both at National and at European level. My role as the Climate Change Advisor, began with a focused review of the RIAI’s response to the Climate Emergency. Following a detailed research period and gap analysis, I developed a series of sub-strategies threaded across the six different divisions of the Institute which support and encompass the overarching RIAI 2023-2027 strategy. Collectively the strategies are set to improve the RIAI’s support of its members, focus on key areas of Government and Industry advocacy, communication, member and university education, financial disclosures and reduce the carbon footprint of its building assets through the development of a Climate Action Plan. Working closely with the RIAI Executive, committees and sub-committees, and multiple external stakeholder organisations at local and European level, implementation of the strategies has begun and will continue in the coming years.
