The goal of the Say Yes! after school program is to support the learning of inner city children grades K-7. The program primarily reached First Nations kids in the neighborhood. The job as director involved:-being a mentor to the children in the program, developing a trust relationship with them and their families (mostly First Nations)-finding and registering children for the program. -creating relational ties with families. -communicating with school principals and the students' teachers re: our purpose and their specific learning needs.-writing regular reports to supporters and for publication on website.-recruiting and training volunteers to mentor and tutor the children. -seeking out funding opportunities and applying for grants.-speaking at churches and schools to develop network and growth of the program.-finding and creating educational resources for use during tutoring sessions. Preparing resources for volunteers to implement. -day to day running of the program. Delegating jobs but being present with the kids; overseeing tutoring and discipline when needed.
