As the sole Youth Services Librarian at Aram Public Library, I serve the younger members of the community of Delavan, Wisconsin, in a number of ways. In addition to the usual daily library tasks, my duties entail programming for the entirety of the Youth Services Department, including our successful Summer Reading Program. I am responsible for the collection development for both the Children’s and Teen sections and have also implemented a redecoration of the Children’s Department. Additionally, I am strengthening the library’s connection with the local schools through the implementation of on-site story times, middle school book clubs, and volunteer programs. As the acting manager of the Youth Services Department, I am in charge of overseeing a staff that includes part-time library assistants and teen volunteers, developing departmental policies, and managing the budget. I take pride in leading the Youth Services Department with hard work and informed enthusiasm, aiming to inspire and motivate the staff to provide the highest level of service possible for patrons of all ages. In addition to my role as Youth Services Librarian, I also acted as interim director for Aram Public Library from September of 2013 until June of 2014. During this time, I led the library in regulating policies for both staff and patrons, creating uniform technological offerings, improving the consistency and accuracy of staff scheduling, troubleshooting and regaining correct budgetary information, and boosting morale, both in terms of staff and the library’s patron base.
