About Katherine Scott

I'm a Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech and a versatile software engineer. I "got out" of Tech in 2016 with two degrees in Computer Science. My specialization in grad school was computing systems, and my threads in undergrad were Devices and Intelligence. I currently work as a software engineer in the aerospace industry in Atlanta, GA. While I was still in school, I did internships with Cisco and Electronic Arts, and a co-op with the Georgia Tech Research Institute. I worked on a wide variety of projects, from cable gateways to video games. I even helped develop a robot to debone chicken. Through these experiences I got to work with teams of all sizes, and I gained a lot of experience diving into pre-existing codebases. Interests: software engineering, robotics, security, IoT, artificial intelligenceSkills: Programming (C/C++/C#/Java/Python), Robotics, Data Analysis, Network Protocols, Windows Systems Administration

    Redwood City, Ca, Us
At EA, I worked as a software engineer on the "NBA Live 15" Gameplay Team. I helped develop both the code for the game itself, and the code for the tools used to design the game. Feedback from playtesters and critics praised several of the features I had created, such as the reduced repetition of animations.Accomplishments:♦ Designed a thread-safe feature to query databases for unused assets, preventing repeated animations and resulting in a noticeable increase in variety and user satisfaction♦ Created several batch processing programs in C# to automate the design process and generate asset data♦ Modified non-player-character game AI so that it would respond more realistically to gameplay scenarios♦ Found and corrected several bugs during alpha development
  • Georgia Tech Research Institute
    Co-Op
Georgia Tech Research Institute Aug 2012 - May 2014
    Atlanta, Georgia, Us
For my co-op, I worked at the Food Processing Technology Division of GTRI. This lab researches ways to apply technology, particularly robotics, to food industries. I developed software, gathered and analyzed data, and brainstormed new ideas. I worked on projects such as robots to debone chicken or to search for insects on crops, and an audio monitoring system that detected health conditions in chicken houses.Accomplishments:♦ Designed software architecture for a robotic poultry deboning system♦ Implemented robotic control logic in C++, and designed a GUI using Microsoft Foundation Classes♦ Developed a method for robotic system calibration using OpenCV image library and Eigen matrix library♦ Created multi-threaded camera recording system to capture motion data from human expert using Boost C++ libraries and OpenCV, implemented an analysis program for recorded data using MATLAB and C++♦ Demonstrated the robotic deboning system to potential development partners♦ Built a low-cost, 3-D printed robotic system for performing crop inspection♦ Implemented pose-based visual servoing on the low-cost robot arm using C++ and OpenCV libraries♦ Tested motor behavior and developed a method to compensate for static friction and torque effects♦ Reviewed resumes of candidates for graduate research assistant position
