I started my career in the oil and gas sector, for the next five years I worked towards becoming a parts/materials journeyman. Beginning as a shipper/receiver at Ironline Compression, I learned the in's and out's of working in a warehouse. Inventory control, picking parts for all sorts of jobs, and slowly learning more as time went on. I became part of the safety committee while working here, implementing and upkeeping CORE safety standards. Eventually, we were bought out by Surepoint Technologies, merging our mechanical force with their preexisting electrical/instrumental divisions. Our job scope became larger, customer base doubled in size and our team rose to meet all the new challenges that came with it. I eventually made it to my last exam, passed my Red Seal, and was very grateful for the opportunity to do so with such a great team and company there to support me. It was with great appreciation I left this job to move provinces with my family in search of a better lifestyle. Starting from scratch in British Columbia. Oil and gas is a small beast compared to bigger industries in my area, being forestry and mining. I found an opening at Mormak Equipment, a small job as a part-time yard person. It wasn't my field or equipment that I was used to being around, but I was willing to stick it out and try and earn a spot in their parts room. Four months of that labouring position came and went, I slowly learned about crushers, screeners, and conveyors. After a few conversations, I started full-time with staggered parts and yard responsibilities.
