I work best in fast-moving, compassion-focused, mission-driven teams. For example, in the Houston Health Department Clinics, we build strong cross-functional patient squads and quickly gather pertinent information on cliental by examining risks and creating advantageous reductions to risk taking in order to support our vision of lifelong positive sexual health outcomes. Personal highlights include building reputable interviewing format cards to ease the flow of conversation while maximizing the art of investigation and attaining information on populations needing public health services, successfully administering treatment to patients in need, and organizing disposition code sheets within STD Clinics to help Disease Investigators accurately close cases.Coming into the role without a ton of medical encounters or formal healthcare knowledge was by design. I bring empathy, a strong passion for understanding, and comfort when broached with sensitive topics. I am proud to wear the hat of most compassionate.Awesome superpower: I forge strong personal relationships between me and colleagues from all sides of the business, from front line patient intake to family planning operations to practitioner and laboratory functionality to the executive committee. I even successfully convinced our supervisor to participate (and dress up) in a costume contest. I strongly believe in the transformative power of encouragement and shame debunking, especially when I look back at those lost and confusing times in my own life—like when I felt like the biggest imposter in the room, or when I was shrinking by fear of unfamiliar career crossroads. Mentoring matters. My hope is that I can be not only gracious with the lessons I’ve learned throughout my (blissfully variance) journey, but also generously share personal experience as a first-generation woman of color in public health, sex positivity, and education.I am used to learning job roles quickly, but I always up for learning more.
