Ford School Of Public Policy Oct 2023 - Mar 2024Ann Arbor, Michigan, United StatesThe topic for the 2024 competition was entitled, "Ethics, AI, and the future of work." Diplomacy Lab Researcher- "Storage Full Of Sunshine"U.S. Department Of State Aug 2023 - Dec 2023Bureau Of Western Hemisphere Affairs- Office Of Caribbean Affairs"Storage Full of Sunshine" was a research project under the State Dept's Diplomacy Lab program concerning the next steps for the Caribbean energy transition under the auspices of the PACC 2030 agreement. I worked with a team of four other fellow student researchers under the guidance of PACC 2030 coordinator Shannon Rooney and Director Katherine Beamer of the Office of Caribbean Affairs. According to the State Dept's own definition of the Caribbean, my team and I divided up the work by country. We each worked on three countries, with my three consisting of St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Suriname. The semester project culminated in a 36-page long report summarizing targeted policy prescriptions by country and broader recommendations for the entire Caribbean region. In mid-December, an overview of the paper was presented to PACC 2030 implementers and stakeholders, including current ambassadors and USAID officials, among others. -
Transportation And Mobility InternEcology Center Jun 2023 - Aug 2023Ann Arbor, Michigan, United StatesI familiarized myself with the stakeholder coalition supporting the MI Healthy Climate Plan package. In addition, I observed meetings past and present of the Michigan Public Service Commission, Michigan's state-level utility regulator, to get a sense of how Michigan energy providers large and small would react to certain provisions, ensuring we keep them onboard while working towards our climate goals. Taking advantage of the Democratic trifecta in Michigan, there was heavy movement towards pushing Michigan to be a national leader on climate commitments, especially on EVs with our heritage in automobile manufacturing. I analyzed directives and bills outlining the best practices for mitigating different greenhouse gases, and completed a 10-page comprehensive transport electrification scorecard for Michigan, comparing it to other leaders nationally and in the Midwest (e.g. California, Oklahoma, Minnesota). The backbone of my work was provided by the ACEEE's 2023 Transport Electrification Scorecard. Environmental justice metrics appeared throughout, and updates were inserted manually by me with what the authors didn't give Michigan points for in its 310 pages. A large portion of my work concerned writing and researching persuasively to achieve utility buy-in on energy policies such as time-of-use (TOU) rates, on- and off-the-hood EV purchase incentives, low-carbon fuel standards, and fighting range anxiety by improving charger station availability per capita, among many others. -

Undergraduate Student ResearcherNorthern Michigan University Aug 2019 - Apr 2021Marquette, Michigan, United States- Project 1- A Sociological Critique of Cognitive Deviance: Unconventional Beliefs Reconsidered. Integrated disparate multidisciplinary theories into more cohesive whole, creating Double Echo Chamber theory and Divided States of America postulate, a new lens to think about conspiracy theories and misinformation. Presented work at North Central Sociological Association conference, published work in peer-reviewed journal. - Project 2- How Intervention Affects Students' Self-Efficacy and Well-Being. Designed planner and pre-/post-surveys, administered to treatment/ control groups. Planner designed in line with findings from lit review, e.g. found backwards planning more effective than forward, therefore designed planner pages for treatment group listing goals first before steps to reach. Treatment group took part in weekly emotional intelligence workshops. Synthesized multidisciplinary research into a lit review; along with survey findings, created research poster for presentation at NMU's Student Research Week, with poster/ lit review functioning as deliverables. Event moved online via pandemic, but was exciting knowing we were working on some of the first undergrad research in the US about the pandemic- Project 3- Independent project in which two self-designed surveys asked about respondents’ demographics, belief in various conspiracy theories, media consumption, and included abridged California F Scale. Sought to disprove the myth of a generational divide in belief in various conspiracy theories, with H0 that younger generations have less belief in conspiracy theories than do older generations. Was finishing this work as the January 6th insurrection unfolded and presented another opportunity to design a second study specific to the range of conspiracy theories that precipitated/ were created from events of January 6th. The conference I would've presented this work at was canceled due to COVID-19, but I attached the program below. -
Member/ Youth LiaisonLeague Of Women Voters Of Marquette County Feb 2018 - Apr 2021Marquette, Michigan, United StatesOne of my proudest moments during my time there was collecting signatures in support of establishing a redistricting commission to de-gerrymander our districts. I am pleased to say it got enough signatures in order to get on the statewide ballot in 2018 as Michigan Proposal 2! I also took part in the more regular LWV activities of getting anyone and everyone registered to vote in various events around town, as well as attending meetings of local government groups and the LWV itself. As its leadership highly skewed towards older/ retired generations that had more time to do volunteer work, I was eventually tasked with duties relating to canvassing for our events around campus to increase cross-generational engagement and ensuring we have the next generations of leaders on a local level.
