"We must be the change we want to see in the world." This famous quote by Gandhi is one of my favorites, and as I look at monogrammed knick- knacks on stores' shelves, I'd say it is a favorite for many. It's always had a global meaning to me such as being involved in ending world hunger and poverty. I've come to realize that the quote has much more meaning in my business sphere of influence. What if I looked at how I manager others and how I conduct my sales transactions in a different way that actually builds a lasting relationship instead of just looking for immediate results? What if I focus on the method to getting the results instead of just seeing the final product? And, what about managing and leading by being a servant rather than being a so-called dictator?I had a smart marketing guru tell me once that we are told that we spend 80% of our time on 20% of our customers but what if changed that and spent 80% of our time on 80% of our customers? It took me a minute to process and then I thought that's a change worth looking in to. The philosophy worked as I continually surpassed my client retention rate goals, enjoyed a high occupancy rate in my building and clients who continually commemorate my staff on survey results. Gadhi's famous quote is now a day- to- day reality in how to conduct business and interpersonal relationships.
