A joint project between the Department of Sport and Recreation and the Planning Institute of Australia. • Facilitated the implementation of the State Public Parkland Strategy via capacity building, informing policy development, community/industry engagement and advocacy for improved park functionality, access and acquisition.• Established governance structures to coordinate ongoing strategy implementation once the project had finished. Partnered with Parks and Leisure Australia to develop committees for ongoing efforts, created stakeholder alliances to sustain efforts into the future. • Collaboration with the Heart Foundation to implement "Healthy Active by Design" guidelines in communities.• Created new classification framework for public open space to better address parkland functions - sport, nature, conservation and recreation. • Navigated various Council systems to find and develop resources and services to support ongoing implementation of the strategy
