I edited two of the weekly titles in the MEN Media group - the Stockport Express and Middleton Guardian, and managed a team of six reporters.I was responsible for the content of both papers, both legally and in terms of editorial decision-making.I was also responsible for publishing the content to the MEN website, and maximising its readership through the use of social media.I managed the Stockport Express Twitter feed (over 15,000 followers) and Facebook page (average post reach of around 50,000 per week).

I joined MEN Media as a trainee reporter and progressed to become a senior reporter, writing accurate, engaging copy for a number of newspapers in the group and for the website.As a news reporter I covered a wide variety of topics, including health, education, politics and crime. This gave me the ability to swiftly gain an understanding of a variety of complex issues, produce detailed copy to tight word counts and deadlines, and build relationships with contacts from all walks of life.

Leatherhead

Pira International is a business-to-business publishing house for the packaging industry, and I sourced and wrote exclusive stories for subscription newsletters. I was also promoted to manage three of the titles, and one other staff member.

In this role I was editor of the student newspaper, and was responsible for all the democratic decision-making processes of the union. I also attended faculty meetings at the highest levels, which gave me an insight into the day-to-day running of a university.
