My dissertation research investigated how infant-caregiver feeding interactions shape diet and growth in ways that influence the risk of obesity and chronic disease. My work focuses on how infant appetite influences and responds to infant-caregiver interactions by incorporating the hormones leptin as a biomarker of appetite.

The Infant Care and Risk of Obesity Project, led by Dr. Margaret Bentley, is a study that examines how beliefs, practices, and the environment shape health in the first two years of life among an African American population in Central North Carolina. My current project examines how non-maternal caregivers, such as fathers and grandmothers, influence infant feeding. My previous work on this project looked at how African American mothers' psychosocial influences and their the composition of their households impact the feeding environments they create for their children. The papers associated with this work are currently in review.
