Hello! I am Katherine Friedly Loranger, and I received my bachelor's degree from UGA in mathematics. After earning my bachelor’s degree, I completed my Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) in Secondary Mathematics from GSU. My certification allows me to teach grades 6th through 12th. I am currently the 8th Grade Math Teacher at Saint Martin’s Episcopal School. I teach Foundations of Algebra I, Algebra I, and Accelerated Algebra I. My student teaching was in high school mathematics. I was able to student teach for the following courses: Pre-Calculus, Pre-Calculus Honors, IB Math Applications and Interpretation, and Algebra I. I am a dedicated and passionate teacher with a love for children.Teaching mathematics is important to me, because of my history in the subject. I began college with a fixed mindset: you are born with a certain level of intelligence and it can not change. When I entered higher-level mathematics courses, I began to give up instead of trying harder because the material wasn’t coming easy to me. After taking time from school, I had a revelation: nothing good in life comes easy, so I returned to my classes with a new ferocity. I spent hours studying and practicing and began to find joy in my work. My grades improved and my confidence bloomed. It is important for me to give my students an experience of success. I want them to gain confidence in themselves by celebrating mistakes and the struggle, not the final grades. Having a student’s face light up with understanding inspires me. Having a student speak up in class for the first time inspires me. But ultimately giving my students confidence and hope inspires me most.
