About Katherine Yang

With a background and formal education in music performance and arts administration, Katherine Yang has worked professionally in the music field for nearly a decade both for New York and Southern California performing arts institutions. She currently serves as Vice President of Education and Community Engagement for the Philharmonic Society of Orange County. Katherine’s past experience includes five years with the Pacific Chorale, where she assessed, planned and executed the re-launch of the organization’s Education & Community Programs department. As Director of Education and Community Programs at Pacific Chorale, Katherine brought a diverse background of non-profit administration to her position, previously serving as Associate Director of Education & Community Engagement for The Pasadena Symphony. While at The Pasadena Symphony, Katherine oversaw planning and implementation of numerous in-school and community programs. Katherine had the opportunity to work with the League of American Orchestras and is an alumnus of the League’s intensive seminar, the Essentials of Orchestra Management. She has also worked for Pacific Symphony and the New York Philharmonic in public relations and development, respectively.In 2014, Katherine learned of LePort Montessori while researching schools for her daughter and was excited to find an opportunity that combined her varied interests and experience. She led the launch of LePort's very first Montessori Mandarin Immersion program and became the school's founding Head of School in the heart of Irvine, CA. Through her time in this role, she oversaw the development and implementation of a curriculum that integrated Montessori principles while focusing on Chinese language, arts and culture. Through her leadership, the school was able to build strong partnerships and lasting connections within the Orange County community. Katherine's formal education includes a Master of Arts degree in Performing Arts Administration from New York University, two Bachelor's degrees, one in French Horn Performance and one in Sociology from UC Irvine, and once spent six months in China studying Chinese language and culture at both Beijing Normal University and Peking University.Katherine was raised in Southern California and considers Orange County her home. She is married with three young children.
