Development of novel antimicrobial polymers for biomaterial applications, working with the Dulux Group (Australia) on a commercial project, development of the Manufacturing Flagship Indigenous Engagement Strategy and associated research projects.

The Manufacturing Flagship Science Council has three foci:1. Advising the Flagship on how to maintain/improve science quality – this is not just publications but also IP and recommending investment in major capital equipment. Also OCE and TCP alignment and other measures and activities to achieve science quality necessary for us to achieve the Flagship and CSIRO vision.2. Horizon scanning to make sure we are fulfilling the role of preparedness for Australia and our customers. We need to make sure we are also undertaking some research that is preparing the science pipeline for the future products and opportunities for the future.3. Creating the most appropriate collaborations and set up the best student and intern program to augment our effort.

Committee was formed to develop and roll out a new Indigenous Engagement Initiative for both Manufacturing and Minerals CSIRO Business Units. This has encompassed an Indigenous cadetship/internship program, creating links with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Schools, developing relationships with Clayton traditional land custodians, and a federally funded project to help develop remote community led businesses based on native plant agriculture.

It is this team's mission to enable, support and assist open constructive communication and the flow of ideas across the whole of the Flagship. This is with the aim of making the Flagship a more productive, positive, open and enjoyable place for all staff to work.

Part time placement in Senator Carr's office, Shadow Minister for Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Industry & Shadow Minister Assisting the Leader for Science.Organized by Biomedical Research Victoria, this placement aims to establish two way links between a parliamentarian and the health and medical research council. Involves drawing on my technical scientific knowledge, experience and networks to advise Senator Carr on topics relating to health and medical research. I have been responsible for the development and implementation of new coursework (eg. creation of a number of novel practical sessions) as well as the management and training of casual teaching staff.
