I manage and plan all communications activities for the Center for Political Studies. My work includes ongoing development of the Center’s communications strategy, producing written information for the Center’s website, blog, Twitter account, and other communication resources. I track and analyze data on the performance of all communications efforts, and adjust efforts based on outcomes. My strong organizational skills ensure that I keep up with the Center's 40+ faculty members and complete projects in an efficient and transparent manner.

I provided strategic communications support to the Detroit Urban Research Center, a group dedicated to improving the understanding of public health and promoting health equity through partnerships with community groups in Detroit. In this role, I developed a communications plan for the research center, including audience identification, development of key messages, communications channels, and goals for the year. I researched, developed, wrote, and edited content for the center’s website and e-mailnewsletter. I maintained social media channels to disseminate research and promote center events.

I was responsible for managing the communications and editorial team at Arbor Research. I developed and directed the implementation of a strategic vision for the role of communications in the organization’s work, and guided the development of the editorial function in line with that vision.

I directed the planning, development, and implementation of communications about Arbor Research's capabilities, mission, and accomplishments. On behalf of our projects, I developed communications initiatives designed to enhance the scope of the audience and identify stakeholders who may be interested in disseminating our research to different audiences (patient advocacy groups, professional societies, public health strategy groups).

As the Coordinator of the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) project, I was directly responsible for the timely completion of work under this federally-funded contract with an annual budget of $4.5 million. I supervised junior staff and served as the key liaison between research investigators and the US Department of Health and Human Services to align research priorities with government contract specifications. I took great pride in my success facilitating communication across diverse teams of clinicians, statisticians, research analysts, programmers, government sponsors, and the public.

As a fellowship with the George Washington Institute for Public Policy, I assisted professors with new and ongoing research projects. I reviewed academic papers for clarity and assisted with grant proposal writing. I gathered information on the impact of urban planning and land use on physical health. As part of a project that resulted in a peer-reviewed publication, I interviewed CEOs for a study on the changing civic role of business leaders.

While pursuing my Master’s degree, I maintained the Welfare Rules Database, an established database for comparing cash assistance programs between states and rule changes within a state. I carefully researched and documented state welfare policy changes in rules and regulations using caseworker manuals issued by state governments.

My main duties were drafting responses to constituent policy inquiries on transportation, housing, and taxes on behalf of the Senator. In the course of my work I also met with constituents and lobbyists to discuss outsourcing, trade, and transportation funding. I worked with senior staff to research home buying regulations to prepare first time homebuyer tax credit legislation.
