My main expertise is in applying machine learning techniques to solve classification and regression problems in geological and geophysical data. My previous position was with the ARC Training Centre in Data Analytics for Resources and Environments (DARE). At DARE my research included geology and hydrology projects, focusing on missing data, uncertainty and model selection. I have a background in geology, with extensive knowledge of the banded iron formation hosted iron ore deposits of the Hammersley Province, Western Australia. My research with RTCMA focused on applying machine learning to solve different problems relating to orebody geology using a range of data including geophysical downhole logging, geochemical assays, “measure while drilling” information from drill rigs and reflectance spectroscopy. This included automated stratigraphic boundary identification using techniques such as Gaussian processes, dynamic time warping, generalised linear models, neural networks and linear unmixing methods.
