RefugeeRISE AmeriCorps Program is unique project that sends teams of AmeriCorps members into rural and urban settings across Iowa to address the needs of different refugee communities in Iowa. The teams consist of a native English speaker or Iowan and a refugee community member. Together they work to eliminate the barriers refugees face to basic resources such as work and health education. As of 2017-18, our program operates in 8 cities, 10 non profits, and 13 sites with 65 members.

I aided in leading classes devoted to teaching work readiness skills to refugees in the Des Moines area. This included teaching basic English skills to hosting mock interview days.

My job requires me to multitask, as I must juggle the phone system and the radio system at the same time. As a dispatcher I handle calls for the student body and the security officers. The job requires me to think on my feet as no two calls are the same, but I must always handle them with attentiveness.
