I was tasked with management of the community while simultaneously growing the project. This was achieved by growing business, government and communities’ understanding of start-ups and how they differ from new traditional businesses and the exciting potential this could yield for Tasmania via face to face education, promotion (despite the website still being under development) and formal business education partnerships. As the PM/CM I also undertook business development training and mentoring with our fledgling start-ups and grew their knowledge and capacity for success via knowledge-building events, fireside chats and workshops. This included technical workshops, for example expanding understanding of Internet of Things, Sensor Technology, Artifical Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics, Drone Tech, Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality/XR, user experience and so on, and startup business theory. It was also important to grow our entrepreneur and startup mentor-base. This aimed to provide the start-ups with pre-business implementation knowledge to best achieve success in an industry where 90% of start-ups fail, but 10% of start-ups have the potential to achieve global success as multi-million or billion dollar companies. A core/key function of the club was to for the Club (Police) Officer to implement recreational intervention and re-engagement programs for disengaged, disadvantaged and vulnerable youth, however the club had moved far from this ethos due to competing workloads. HR and financial resources previously provided by Tasmania Police had been removed and the organisation did not have risk management protocols in place. During my tenure at PCYC I addressed staff and organisational culture to re-skill and build a fantastic team, income was increased, overheads were decreased, and new structural changes have streamlined administration, automated collection of fees and addressed managerial headaches. Marketing plans along with new tools are now implemented, major infrastructure projects were completed at very low cost to the organisation, funding was leveraged to drive the organisations dollar further, and key community and business partnerships are now in place to support the organisation. As far back as 2011 PCYC had been running at a loss. The Board knew they needed strong and capable management to create organisational change. PCYC Launceston is now a healthy organisation, well on its way to achieving some remarkable outcomes. The 6 month position for 2017 indicates the club will record a good profit for the first time in 7 years, even after additional spending on new systems and staffing. Future directions have now been mapped out to continue this upwards trend. This aims to future-proof the organizations in terms of long term viability and sustainability. Show less

The role is highly variable and requires skills in strategic analysis and planning, active networking, relationship building, and negotiation as well as the capacity to implement and complete projects.
