As the family caregiver for my spouse, a 31-year multiple myeloma survivor, I share my cancer experience with support groups, medical professional groups and many cancer-related organizations. Having been a long time American Cancer Society volunteer I also speak of the importance of patients support, access to care and advocacy for cancer-related policies.

As an ACS volunteer leader, I conceived the idea and helped launch a four-day bicycle touring event, the first of its kind for the ACS in 2007. The ride encompasses 328 miles over city streets, country roads, scenic by-ways and beautiful bike paths. The event is to raise funds and awareness for ACS Hope Lodges and other vital patient service programs of the ACS. Became the first Chair of the Board and recruited members to create the Board for Hope Lodge, worked with staff and Board in developing procedures and practices that became "best practices" for the 30+ Hope Lodges across the country. Actively fund-raised to help complete Hope Lodge Capital Campaign that had stalled, helping to reinvigorate campaign which raised more than its stated goal. Served as Vice-Chair of the ACS East Central Division Board from 2011 to 2013 and then served as Chair of the Board from 2013 till January 2015. Member of Northern Ohio Area Board, currently serving as Chair.

Served as Secretary, 2010, Treasurer 2011 and Income Development Chair

Served on various Board Committees: Stakeholders Committee, Strategic Marketing and Communications, Quality of Life, Income Development, Survivor/Caregiver Operations Committee, Research and Medical Affairs as well as special workgroups within those committees. Also served as a National Assembly Delegate from 2004-2010.

Served as a lay representative on one of the 17 ACS National Extramural Grant Review Committees, which required reviewing cancer relevant grant proposals submitted to the ACS for funding. The ACS Peer Review Grant program began in 1946 and has funded early in their research careers, 47 Nobel Prize winners. Led various initiatives to raise awareness for ACS programs and attract new donors. Worked directly with local ACS office a on Cleveland Hope Lodge activities to help raise funds and awareness for the lodge in the community.
