I am a self-contained EBD teacher for elementary students who have significant social, behavioral, and emotional needs. In my role, I am expected to create data collection systems, graphs and reports based on student’ behavioral and social goals. I also conduct FBAs and write Positive Behavior Support Plans to increase student’s success in school. I modify academic work, schedules, and expectations depending on each student’s individual academic, behavioral, and emotional skills/needs. I train all paraeducators in my room on data collection systems, student’s specific behavior support plans and student’s individualized work expectations. I research and learn about different academic programs and teaching strategies to ensure my students are able to successfully learn academic material. I work as part of a team with administration, my student’s classroom teachers, the district BCBA, and the school social worker to provide a safe environment for all students and staff in our room. The team ensures that protocols and safety decisions are discussed and modified after incidences. I ensure that all procedures and policies are followed regarding the safety of students and staff (DCYF, injury forms, restraint or exclusion forms, suicide protocol, parent notification, etc.). I work closely with regular education classroom teachers to integrate my students in their general education classroom during times that would be successful for the student. I ensure that there is regular communication with parents regarding student’s behavioral, emotional, and academic progress. I work with other Special Education and General Education teachers in the school to help them implement data collection systems that work for their students. The elementary EBD team has worked closely with a district social emotional consultant, Eric Mann, to improve Concord School District’s elementary EBD program. I am CPI certified.

I provided ongoing support for clients and their families while at Ready Set Connect. I also conducted Functional Behavior Assessments and other needed assessments. I wrote and maintained positive behavior support plans and client programming. As a BCBA, I oversaw plan development, and ongoing program data analysis to ensure maximum student progress. I provided training and supervision for behavior technicians working with my clients. I was responsible for completing needed billing documents and information and ensure clients billing information is correct.

I was a member of state-wide Assistive Technology Committee to improve district procedures and access for students. I participated in a special education audit by the DOE to improve IEP and goal writing along with services for students. To ensure student growth, I used assessment and data collection tools to plan for and monitor goals and instruction. For students whose problem behaviors were impacting their access to curriculum, I worked closely with BCBAs and the behavior specialist to create, implement and collect data for behavior support plans. I collaborated with and provided consultation to administration, BCBAs, families, classroom teachers, other special educators, the special education coordinator and paraprofessionals. As a Special Education Teacher, I received Common Core State Standard training resulting in standards-based goal writing for IEPs and program instruction. I was a member of the district-wide Communications Committee to improve district communication to families, between schools and with the community. I was a mentor to new Special Educators in the Merrimack School District. I received Dynamic Learning Maps training to administer to a student, which will result in accurate results for state testing. I implemented a co-teaching model for Special Educators leading to looping with students, shared paraeducators and planning and more consistent student services. I learned the diagnostic components of enVisions math, created easy to use materials and binders and trained staff to increase student instruction.

I provided in-home Applied Behavior Analysis support for individuals with Autism. I was responsible for creating and running programs for children based on their treatment plan, while supervised by a BCBA. I worked closely with families to improve child's behavior and functional skills. When new staff were introduced to the clients I was working with, I trained new staff on student's programming and behavior plans. I worked with children in the community to build functional life and community skills.

I planned, taught and modified lessons and units, across a variety of subjects, to allow many different students access to the curriculum in a second grade class. I also collaborated and taught lessons with other interns in the school. I have administered different assessments and served on a team that creates and implements IEPs. Through professional development opportunities, I have become familiar with aligning IEPs with the common core. I have received ALP training and worked as part of a team creating and building alternative assessments for two students resulting in more accurate results for state testing. I have conducted research including data collection using math interventions. I also received running records training from the school reading specialist, allowing for myself to have a more comprehensive understanding of administering and using running records.

I was responsible with modifying camp plans and schedules to accommodate campers with disabilities. I also worked very closely with families to create behavior plans and reward systems for students who needed them.

I assisted the front office with directing disability related questions and concerns to the appropriate staff members for the purpose of ensuring equal access to education for all students. I also spent a year working the Assistive Technology lab in the office. I assisted students with disabilities in enhancing their education with the use of assistive technology.

I worked with students who have disabilities to locate employment opportunities and develop job skills. I also assisted with completing and submitting work papers for students and keeping documentation of their progress and skills. My work as a job coach resulted in a part-time job for one student and several volunteer opportunities for another student.
