I have worked as a researcher and education outreach coordinator on the issue of rat lungworm disease in Hawaii since 2011. I have done studies to determine the potential for disease transmission through rainwater catchment systems, and I have developed an integrated pest management plan for the control of slug and snail carriers of the parasite, and accompanying STEM curriculum for grades 5-8 on the rat lungworm parasite, the disease, and disease prevention.
