Civil Eit
KCB is an engineering, geoscience and environmental company helping clients achieve sustainable resource development from concept to closure. As an EIT with KCB’s Mining Environmental Group, I assisted in helping clients manage their water resources challenges. I updated water balance models, developed in HEC-HMS and excel, to inform future water management decisions. I also ensured field data collection programs were executed in a timely and safe manner to meet project requirements.
Water And Environment Student
In 2016, I pursued a three month internship in Australia to get a better understanding of what it is like to be a global engineer. With the Water Team at Hatch, I assisted with the development and analysis of water balance models for mines in Australia. I used ArcGIS to derive water catchment areas and stage storage curves for mine sites using topographic data. I modified water balance models using two types of software, GoldSim and OpSim, and analyzed water balance model results for presentation to clients.
Water Summer Student
As a Water Student at Hatch, I gained experience in research and development. I worked individually to complete a literature review for a research project on dewatering technologies for mine tailings. I demonstrated creativity and attention to detail by developing and executing lab tests to analyze freeze-thaw concepts on tailings. I also gained excellent written and verbal communication skills by assisting with process flow diagrams, data analysis and report writing for mine dewatering treatment plant upgrades.
