Kathie is Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Univ of CT School of Medicine, a neonatologist & member of the Human Milk Research Center, CT Children’s Medical Center, Hartford, CT. She graduated from Cornell University & Cornell Univ School of Medicine; was a pediatric intern, resident, nephrology & neonatology fellow at Children’s National Medical Center, George Washington Univ, Washington DC. In the inaugural group of 20 physicians to be recognized as “Fellow of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine” (FABM), she served 12 years on the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine Board of Directors (including as Secretary, Executive Committee), & chaired the Protocol committee, on which she still works, for many years. She is Past-Chair of the US Breastfeeding Committee, & was elected to ILCA's BOD in 2014. Belonging to the Amer Academy of Pediatrics Section on Breastfeeding, she serves as AAP CT Chapter Breastfeeding Coordinator since 2000. She was instrumental in drafting & passing comprehensive workplace breastfeeding legislation in CT in 2001, and Jury Duty Legislation in 2012. A volunteer on the medical advisory committee to Baby-Friendly USA, she Chaired the BFHI USA NICU Initiative 2013-17. She was appointed to the CT Governor’s Task Force on Family Medical Leave in 2013 & was active in the CT Breastfeeding Coalition, serving on many state & local committees & organizations. A long-time believer in using pasteurized donor human milk, she was founding Medical Director of the New England Mother's Milk Bank and served as co-Medical Director of the Mothers' Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes. She has authored many chapters, monographs, research papers, & ABM protocols. Her research interests center on breastfeeding & the use of human milk in the NICU, cup feeding, donor milk & milk banking, educating medical professionals, maternal-child health issues, infant anf young child feeding in emergencies and COVID as it relate in these areas.. She lectures extensively in the US & abroad living in Glastonbury, CT. Kathie has 4 grown children.
