I led Young Cumbria through a period of immense change brought on by austerity. I adapted the organisation’s strategic focus in line with the changing needs of young people and the changing contracting and funding environment. We moved the focus of the organisation from open access youth work to targeted youth services working with the most disadvantaged young people in areas of highest deprivation.

Ignite provides career and leadership development opportunties for girls and young women. We provide coaching develop self knowledge, self efficacy and resilence to enable our clients to make good decisions about their futures. We also provide them with access to real world opportunities, such as mentoring, shadowing, and work experience, so they truly understand what they can expect from the world of work.

Voluntary role working with committee members on operational development in the UK.

Oversaw the operations of the organisation and managed all senior managers including IT, facilities finance, human resources and organisational development and all regional service delivery. Worked with the CEO to take the organisation through a time of transition, from a first generation to a second generation social business including due diligence in preparation for a substantial merger.

BYC is a national charity. I led the organisation’s work supporting youth led organisations to empower young people and promote their place in society. Led the strategic development of the organisation; diversified and more than doubled the funding base to enable the organisation to develop and expand. Supported and advised the board of young trustees (18-25).

Set up and developed the Participation Unit at the NCB, advising and managing projects for national government and other organisations. The work was grounded in Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

The scheme worked in six of the most deprived boroughs of London to involve children and young people in the regeneration of their communities.

Set up and developed Edinburgh’s Childcare Strategy in line with National Guidance from the Scottish Executive and establish the grant-giving programme to childcare providers.
