For most of my life I felt even-keeled and focused, and others saw me that way. In our family of (how many), my mother called me the “stable one." And as I grew up, I planned. I was prudent with my money and throughout my young adulthood, I always had a job with a good salary and great benefits. Planning wasn't hard. In 2001, when my son was born, I felt a shift in my priorities: I wanted to find work that offered me the time and flexibility to spend with my family. Real estate felt right. I was good at it, I loved it, and because my husband is a contractor, it made sense for our whole family. We began to purchase investment properties, with the idea that our investments would, eventually, provide us a nice retirement income. Everything was humming along. And then came the 2008 recession, and we were knocked to our knees. Suddenly I wasn't that even-keeled, focused woman I had always been. With the financial uncertainty we faced, everything felt uncertain, and with no financial advisor to guide us, we made decisions-based emotions--many which were unwise.Three years later I was lucky enough to be offered an opportunity to join a financial firm as a financial advisor. I knew how important those were, and as I trained, I began to feel good again: Steady, focused, even-keeled. And as I built my practice, I began to hear stories similar to my own from bright, confident, wise, amazing women. Again, and again, I heard tales of women conquering the world when, suddenly, the rug was pulled out from beneath them--divorce, job loss, illness... The impediments were varied, but the outcome was the same: Fear, confusion, fading confidence...Over time my mission became clear: To create a holistic approach to finance, to support women seeking to implement financial plans that will take them where they want to go--wherever that is!
