I retired from Blind Children's Learning Center in June of 2017. Having served as President and Executive Director since January of 2012, I hope that my leadership has championed the Center’s mission and fostered an environment of teamwork and excellence within the organization. I feel confident that with my management team and board of directors, we've increased visibility and awareness, built collaborative relationships with critical stakeholders and brought long lasting, positive results. It has been rewarding to facilitate the strategic planning process to ensure alignment with the Center’s mission and create, implement and evaluate annual operating plans to manage strategic growth and ensure organizational sustainability.Revenue generation and sustainability is always challenging, but we have successfully increased our fundraising and stabilized and diversified our revenue streams to support compelling programs which employ more than 60 teachers, therapists and educators and serve more than 350 family members. We've maintained an annual budget of more than $2.7 million and healthy reserves of more than $1.2 million.. Strong working relationships with our supporters and vendors (school districts and regional centers) has been rewarding. Establishing a new social enterprise and working with our collaborative partners in the community has helped to ensure program quality and sustainability. Our Board of Directors have implemented policies and contributed to the agency's financial stability. My staff have exceeded expectations, enduring many changes and coming together as a team to receive several awards for meeting and exceeding industry standards. I hope that my successor will continue to maintain a practice of clear communication and will strive to be strategic in looking at the future of Blind Children's Learning Center, so that this wonderful agency will thrive well beyond its current 55 years of service.

Retired President And Executive DirectorBlind Children'S Learning Center Jul 2017 - PresentTustin CaOn June 30, 2017, I retired from Blind Children's Learning Center as President and Executive Director. I had the pleasure of serving in this capacity for more than five years, working with my management team, the board of directors and Jeri Konopisos, BOD Chair. I'm very proud of our accomplishments which have benefited the Center and families we serve:• We nearly doubled enrollment of typically developing students by re-branding our Early Childhood Center program as "Bright Visions." This increased annual revenue by nearly $250,000 and allowed children from the community to learn alongside students with visual impairments. • We applied for and received our license from the state of California and accreditation as a non-public school to serve children with visual impairments through second grade, allowing our Kindergarten class to have two additional years at the Center.•We overcame an unhealthy deficit in 2013 and today, thanks to our generous supporters, have a $2.7 million balanced budget with healthy reserves of $1.5 million.Colleen Roach is the incoming President and Executive Director of Blind Children's Learning Center. Colleen was offered the position following an extensive search led by the Board of Directors. My goal in giving 12 months notice of my retirement was to give the search committee enough time to find the best candidate to lead and represent the organization I care for so deeply.Jeff Hipshman has followed Jeri Konopisos as Board Chair of Blind Children's Learning Center. Jeff is a Partner at HMWC CPAs & Business Advisors and has served on the Board since 2009, most recently as Finance Chair.I'm truly grateful to have had the opportunity to lead a devoted staff of 53 who see to the success of excellent programs to benefit these deserving children from birth to age 21. Please join me in continuing to support Blind Children's Learning Center. -
