In this role, Kathleen:• Engaged state and federal agencies and decision-makers to advance conservationpolicies, initiatives, and funding in the Pacific Northwest, with particular emphasis onSouthern Resident killer whales, grizzly bears, and Pacific salmon.• Mobilized grassroots support for conservation initiatives through action alerts, newsarticles, blog posts, and social media.• Built partnerships with other conservation NGOs, policymakers, Northwest Tribes, anddiverse interest groups (e.g. hunters, anglers, BIPOC groups) to magnify impact.• Developed and implemented Defenders’ strategic objectives for the recovery and protectionof imperiled wildlife and their habitats in Washington State.• Hosted and organized events to empower and equip communities and individuals withknowledge, skills, and tools to contribute to conservation initiatives.

As part of this work, Kathleen:• Directed the Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA's) humanitarian program, including strategy development, donor relationships, project management, and fundraising. • Provided technical assistance and expertise on humanitarian energy access and clean cooking to practitioners, researchers, and funders.• Led global advocacy on humanitarian energy access as co-chair of the Safe Access to Fuel and Energy (SAFE) Humanitarian Working Group and co-author of the Global Plan of Action for Sustainable Energy Solutions in Situations of Displacement (GPA).• Educated partners and donors about humanitarian energy access through webinars and events. • Developed communications material for the humanitarian program, including press releases, newsletters, blog posts, fact sheets, op-eds, and other material for donors, partners, and the general public.
