Working with people who are passionate about National Parks I manage communications and events for a small but mighty nonprofit. As the official partner of the three largest National Parks in Washington State, Washington's National Park Fund raises funds and engages friends to support the parks in numerous ways. We focus our efforts on four core areas:- Science and Research,- Visitor Experiences,- Youth Programs, and- Volunteerism and Stewardship.We host several Fireside Circle donor events throughout the year both at the Parks and in locations throughout the state. We have an annual dinner and auction that raises critical funds to support these three amazing National Parks.

The National Forest Foundation (NFF) is the congressionally chartered non-profit partner to the U.S. Forest Service. Our mission is to support stewardship of National Forest lands and community engagement programs to deepen the connection of the American public to these shared public lands.In the role of Pacific Northwest Regional Director I develop and implement the National Forest Foundation’s (NFF) Pacific Northwest programs covering three states and two Forest Service regions. This includes development of new partnerships throughout Oregon, Washington, and Alaska to further the mission of the organization and our partners. The strategic program of work has included coordinating with development staff to raise funds from a diverse set of public and private sources; working with a variety of community and Forest Service partners to develop strategic conservation programs benefitting National Forests and rural communities throughout the Pacific Northwest; developing new partnerships for the organization throughout the region; and coordinating with government agencies, non-profit partners, business development entities, and individuals to coalesce around a shared vision.

Served in an interim position to oversee development and communications activities for the NFF nationally. Supervised a dynamic team of five and managed transition to bring a new Executive Vice President on board.

The Friends of the Cedar River Watershed (FCRW) works to inspire conservation and protection of a healthy Cedar River through restoration, education, and stewardship. We lead hundreds of volunteers annually on restoration events and guided naturalist tours throughout the watershed, which is the source of drinking water for 1.4 million people throughout the greater Seattle area. I served as Board President for FCRW, guiding the organization through a period of tremendous strategic growth. This included adding new programs and staff, expanding the geographic scope of our work, and fostering board development.

Managed REI’s store-based grants program nationwide. Provided strategic funding recommendations for up to $2 million in grants, ensuring alignment with organization’s goals and desired outcomes.• Reviewed and evaluated grant proposals, provided program guidance to grantees, and performed monitoring and evaluation to ensure funds were spent appropriately and that sustainability reporting was accurate.• Developed internal and external communications regarding grant programs to facilitate a seamless application process for grantees as well as educate and engage employees.• Designed and implemented an online grants application program that streamlined the process, improved tracking, saved time, and reduced printing cost and paper consumption.• Developed “best practices” guidelines for all programs, resulting in successful program implementation and increased employee engagement.

Awarded International Development fellowship with Pronatura through the University of Michigan’s Population and Environment Fellowship program, funded by USAID.• Served as program manager for water projects in the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve that provided the organization with a deeper understanding of household water management issues and the importance of water conservations strategies. Prepared budgets and ensured reporting compliance through life of projects. • Oversaw environmental and health education initiatives in local communities. • Designed research instruments for water conservation/public health project, performed data analysis, and presented findings at internationals venues.• Supervised full-time field staff and summer interns, and provided training and development opportunities.• Performed ongoing fundraising with Mexican and international donors that brought increased revenue and visibility to the organization.

Developed, researched and wrote site conservation plans for priority natural areas throughout Indiana that outlined priorities and action plans for on-the-ground restoration.• Coordinated eco-regional planning efforts for the Interior Low Plateau ecoregion (five states) and all participating agencies.• Collaborated with the Director of Conservation Science and other stewardship staff on restoration fieldwork in priority natural areas, including control of invasive species and biological monitoring.• Developed the organization’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) capabilities and worked with science and stewardship staff to expand use of GIS mapping in all aspects of conservation work.

Coordinated the International Forestry Resources and Institutions (IFRI) class that prepared students for fieldwork and case study reporting on forest uses.• Collected ecological and social data from the field, analyzed data, and assisted in the preparation of the final project report.• Participated in an IFRI field research project in southeastern Guatemala and wrote summary field reports for all sites at the conclusion of the project.

• Rural community development work in the areas of soil conservation, environmental education, planning and implementation of small scale water systems, nutrition and vegetable gardening.• Extensive work with rural women’s groups, family planning/women’s health programs, and design and implementation of group presentations.
