OJB*Lab - Internship - researching ways to improve landscape architecture through ecology and technology.

Katie joined the firm in 2017 enriching our growing landscape architecture practice. She contributes by designing landscapes for the use and recreation of people, harmoniously connecting the natural landscape and the architecture of the space. Katie's designs are influenced by her background experiences and natural love for New England. Through her studies and work she has combined her passion for the outdoors with her craft in fine art to design unique and beautiful landscapes.

Managing the maintenance of high end residential estates through estimating projects, development of contracts and the supervision of crews.  Collaboration in design with architects, landscape architects, builders, property managers and other multi-disciplinary professionals to see landscape projects to a successful fruition.  Achieving client desires with landscape design and management of the project throughout the installation (ex: location of materials, masonry, irrigation, lighting and planting).Marketing and advertising through web design, social media, brochures.

In-studio design assistant using hand drawing, AutoCAD, Sketch up, Shaderlight and Photoshop as rendering tools. Assistant to the ornamental designer creating container and garden enhancement installations, specializing in unique and new cultivars of plant species.

Sustainable residential landscape installation, maintenance and design. Creating the connection between the client’s wants and the environment’s needs through locally sourced material, native plantings and management of water.

As an intern we assisted with studies and the breeding of the Illicium shrub for new ornamental propagation.My focus areas included the Annual Display Garden, The Shade Tree Garden, Reception Garden.The internship included a six week class about public garden development, the sustainable landscape and professional practices.

Fine garden maintenance for a public garden with the mission to educate the community about the environment and preserve the rich history the grounds hold. The duties included assisting the head horticulturist. I collaborated and ran the internship: Eco-Corp, a six week program for six teens developing personal sustainable practices and implementing sustainability through the landscape. As part of a restoration project I led the teens:-In the removal of invasive species-replacing with native plants-The rerouting of a footpath-The installation of a bioswale to channel runoff -the construction of an educational platform

Became a member of the New Jersey Invasive Species Strike Team (NJISST) and sustainably removed the invasive plants from the Arboretum's property.Designed and constructed a patio area using local stones.
