In this post I take responsibility for the day to day operation and supervision of the Immunophenotyping of Haematological Malignancy / Leukaemia service for NHS Tayside.

Specialist Biomedical Scientist role within Haematology. During my time as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist I became an active IBMS Registration portfolio verifier and completed a MSc Biomedical Science.

Temporary fixed term six month post in a familiar position of Biomedical Scientist in the Haematology department at Ninewells Hospital. I then took a career break to travel the world.

My role as a Biomedical Scientist (in haematology), included participation in shift work to maintain the 7am – 1am operation hours of the lab. As scientist I rotated between Haematology (morphology), Coagulation and Blood Bank.

This role was to provide Clinipath Pathology customers with a laboratory service to meet the needs of the Mount Hospital doctors and customers. I covered Haematology (specialist), Bloodbank (urgent cross-mayching), Biochemistry (Specialist) and Microbiology (basic). I participated in a shift roster to enable 24 hour service coverage at the Mount Hospital laboratory.

I had a varied role as a Medical Laboratory Assistant in the Haematology department as my main responsibilities were rotated, working through all areas in the laboratory providing support to the BMS staff. It was during my time as an MLA that I completed my Biomedical Science Post Graduate certificate.
