I started as a COB agent (costumer on the book) with duties including guest profile management (especially VIPs, regulars and loyalty members) and calling guests proactively prior arrival and/or after departure in order to improve customer service and guest satisfaction, to build relationships and to encourage guest interactions. Focusing furthermore in corporate and leisure room sales while getting involved actively in Group Sales and Group Administration were my current role lies.At the moment we are dealing with the finishing touches of our refurbishment in our soon newly re-branded Charing Cross Hotel – soon to be the worldwide first AMBA hotel within the glh group.

In this small boutique hotel with lots of charm to escape the busy London lifestyle, a duty manager needs good multitasking skills. I learnt quiet quickly how to deal with feedback and complaints (positive and negative) while going through refurbishment works straight from my first day.I handled the front desk with daily receptionist tasks and dealing with any concierge and reservation enquiry. Supporting and training my reception team and new starters, crosschecking Online Travel Agent bookings and updating room rates in the property management system or running the competitor report were other tasks and responsibilities. From fixing air conditioning units or resetting television to running errands for any guest request, a lot of challenges faced me especially on late shifts being the person in charge for the whole hotel.The Nadler Kensington is a 65 bedroom property, awarded with several travellers’ choice awards and rated in the top 50 registered London hotels on Trip Advisor. Together we went through the brand change from trendy ‘base2stay’ to the chic ‘Nadler’ brand, still providing the affordable luxury. The unique brand provides the home away from home for many long stay leisure guests from overseas. From General Manager to intern, nobody in the small management team considered oneself too good for taking the guests luggage up to their room or covering their phones during busy times. Great teamwork was delivered daily always being focused on delivering the best guest service possible.

Located next to the Euston railway station and just a stone through away from King’s Cross station and St Pancras my first job in the UK turned out to be a suitable challenge for me. While the reception and lobby area was already newly refurbished the 362 rooms were soon to follow.Already confident with Opera as the property management system on site, I got confident in checking in/out an international clientele but also welcoming many business guests. Our team at the front desk were delivering excellent customer service by up-selling rooms and increasing other internal revenue and following brand operation standards. Promoting and signing in guests to our newly launched loyalty program called ‘Signature’ was a daily task and during several months we helped occasionally our F&B team with their breakfast service shift.Over my last months at the Thistle Euston hotel, I was leading successfully early or late shifts at the reception desk as a reception supervisor. I was always looking at new ways to improve the department and took an active role in training new recruits.

This internship at reception during three months gave me the perfect opportunity to discover all facets in the hospitality sector. I received my first Opera training and was able to put my abilities straight to the test at the front desk being focused on check-in and check-out but offering concierge services as well. I got a very good understanding what the hotel industry is all about.
