Hello there! I’m Katy.I am a process development professional that thrives on the trial-and-error aspects of scientific discovery. My main area of expertise is Downstream purification and if you know about downstream then you know my main tool of the trade: filters.I use a variety of filters and instruments, like TFFs, Äktas, etc. to go from a dirty cell culture to purified drug product. To accomplish purification, I have used an abundance of known process steps (lysis, harvest, affinity/ion exchange/mixed-mode/hydrophobic-interaction/size-exclusion chromatographies, ultrafiltration/concentration, diafiltration/dialysis, pH holds, formulation, lyophilization, etc.), but the key is to figure out the step order, which steps are actually needed for each process, and tweaking those steps bit by bit, hence the key word "optimization."I’m enthusiastic about gaining new skills and growing in the ever-changing field, which is one of the reasons I went from recombinant proteins to AAV, to try and be at the forefront of genetic therapies. I value learning from others and the experiences they bring with them. To summarize the details/ TL;DR: I do downstream process development including scale-up, process optimization, manufacturing up to 200L bioreactor scale, early stage AAV, early and late-stage recombinant protein, and clinical stage manufacturing in a cGMP setting.
