I'm passionate about my work because it sits at the intersection of what Frederick Buechner refers to as "the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet." By utilizing my technical skills in research and evaluation design I endeavor to improve programs, care and reproductive rights for women in developing countries. My professional interests include understanding and reducing abortion related maternal mortality, ensuring evidence-based programming, improving reproductive health care access and eliminating violence against women. In addition to my role at Ipas, I also am an active participant in WHO SERAH (World Health Organization Supporting Expanded Roles for Safe Abortion Care by Health Workers). This group encourages policymakers, implementers of national and subnational programs, non-governmental organizations, professional societies, and donors to demonstrate their support for expanding the roles of health workers toward the 2030 Sustainable Development Goal to “ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights”, and to expand access to high-quality, evidence-based abortion and post-abortion care to women and girls globally.I've been told I am a clear and strategic thinker, solution-focused, and that I am patient and simple/direct in my explanations of difficult concepts. This is what drives me to continue the mentoring and professional development of multiple doctoral students and employees as well as serving as an adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Maternal and Child Health at the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In addition, I am a Consulting Editor for Research Methods for the Journal of Midwifery and Women’s Health. Please contact me for more information: andersenk@ipas.org, (704) 996-1209, kathrynandersen7@gmail.com.
