Chatham Dockyard is a fantastic historic site with four hundred years of history and a range of galleries including three ships and an operational Ropery. As a costumed tour guide at Chatham Historic Dockyard I bring the history of the dockyard to life when interacting with visitors. I am friendly, versatile and approachable which has led to my role expanding to facilitate children’s parties and holiday activities as well as the standard duties expected of a gallery attendant.

As a Digital Content Author for Dashboard Limited, I research and write concise articles on a range of topics including the Internet of Things, AI, energy production and emerging innovative technologies.

Fast paced role interacting with customers of all ages and skating abilities on a daily basis. Varied role at a popular seasonal winter attraction requiring team work and the ability to work independently. With a maximum capacity of 350 people on the ice at any given time, I have to be observant, quick to respond, calm and helpful. Whether I am on the ice or in skate exchange, I have to be prepared to adapt to different situations in order to best support customers needs and work quickly to keep up with the volume of customers over the festive period.Other aspects of the job include administering first aid in the event of a customer injuring themselves and entertaining and taking care of a group of (typically) young skaters as a Party Marshal and Ice Guide. These aspects can often be the most rewarding. For example, a girl who had visited the rink and I had been assigned to her family as an Ice Guide recently took up skating lessons with a coach following her positive experience learning to skate.

Part time role which involved food preparation, customer service and cash handling.

Seasonal position at an outdoor temporary rink which involved working on skate exchange, helping customers off and on the ice, generally helping people up if they fell and manually resurfacing the ice between sessions.

A year-long placement working one-to-one with students to improve their essay writing skills by providing weekly office hours. We also ran drop in sessions and led a workshop session for first years. The role required confidence, speed reading, analytical skills, presentation skills and the ability to adapt quickly to situations. I had to quickly read through and pick out the main argument, identify strengths and weaknesses and consider how best to explain my advice to the student. It was an extremely positive and rewarding position and I enjoyed helping students to improve their work by sharing techniques I had learnt over the course of my degree.
