I have always had a passion for science and technology and applying them in solving some of the greatest challenges facing business, society, and the world. I am a champion for technical innovation and a collaborative leader who enables teams to make an impact. I also care deeply about inspiring and enabling the next generation of diverse scientists, engineers, and business leaders.Throughout my career and in various roles including research, development, product management, strategy, operations, and IT – I have driven technical innovation. As the Chief Information Officer (CIO) at IBM, I led a global team of nearly 12,000 employees whose mission was to create a productive environment for IBM’s 250,000+ employees worldwide and to deliver the future of IT. Drawing on over two decades of technology leadership experience, my focus has been to accelerate digital transformation, optimize employee experience, and ensure the value of disruptive technologies like hybrid cloud and AI are realized. Previously, I was the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of IBM Research and Vice President for Impact Science. As COO, I led the IBM Research transformation to increase impact, extend technical eminence, and improve the operational efficiency of the division. As a leader, I believe in the power of mentoring teams and individuals, because it fosters openness, productivity, and solution-focused thinking.
