The Washington Campus is a non-profit, non-partisan 501(c)(3) higher education organization that organizes and runs intensive experiential courses in Washington, D.C. for a core consortium of 15 business schools, as well as education seminars customized for a wide variety of for-profit, non-profit and public sector partners. Most courses are targeted at graduate students, particularly MBA and Executive MBA students. I work closely with each graduate business school participating in the Washington Campus consortium, develop course content, recruit senior policy speakers, and lecture on corporate advocacy, international trade policy and global competitiveness. I am passionate about business-government relations and the unique opportunity provided by the Washington Campus to enable MBA students to understand the intersection of business, government and public policy that exists in Washington, D.C.

The GFCC is a global network of 30+ competitiveness councils and economic/business development organizations representing countries from the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania. GFCC aims to enable mutual learning within its distinctive and extended network of members and strategic partners. The GFCC's goal is to develop and implement creative, original ideas, concepts and tools to help members understand and navigate the complex competitiveness environment of the 21st Century.As a Senior Fellow, I focus on policy leadership and bring my expertise on matters affecting trade, business and international affairs. I co-founded this firm to provide comprehensive communications and public affairs services to small and medium-sized companies that lack Washington representation. We work to raise clients’ profiles in Washington, advocate on their behalf for elimination of technical regulatory barriers, and plan for changes in international tax policy and new trade agreements with Asia and Europe. I regularly engage with Congress, the Executive Branch, regulatory agencies, foreign governments, business associations, standards-setting organizations and stakeholder groups, and am a frequent public speaker on trade policy and innovation.

I was privileged to co-direct, with my colleague in Brussels, this unique organization of chief executives from American and European companies that was the driving force for launching the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership negotiations. On the U.S. side, I directed the association’s operations, raised its funding, and managed relationships with CEO members and senior staff. We jointly provided strategic direction on TABD’s policy agenda, and advocated its positions before the White House, Executive Branch, Congress, the European Commission, European Parliament, EU Member States, business associations, consumer groups and labor unions. Through our efforts and the extraordinary commitment of our CEO members and their staffs, we positioned TABD as the go-to organization on transatlantic business issues in Washington and Brussels. TABD was named the official business advisor to the Transatlantic Economic Council created in 2007 by President George W. Bush, EU Commission President Manuel Barrosso and German Chancellor Angela Merkel (in her role as President of the European Council). We developed consensus policies on CEO priority issues, built a shared agenda with government, and convened high value events, notably Executive Board meetings in Davos on the margins of the World Economic Forum and in parallel with the annual U.S.-EU Summit meetings. During the course of my work with TABD, I was called upon to serve as an expert witness before Congress and the European Parliament and was a frequent media spokesperson on transatlantic economic relations.

The focus of the International Regulatory Affairs Department was to address burdensome regulations in foreign markets that affected the ability of American pharmaceutical manufacturers to sell their products. My work centered on developing and then executing strategies to address specific regulations in major foreign markets, such as duplicative testing and certification requirements, and pave the way for regulatory reform at the international level, including at the World Health Organization.

I took on the role of Treasurer at a time a rapid growth in ITI's membership. Together with the ITI leadership team, we initiated renewed interaction with the Board, and I was responsible for overall association financial oversight, board relationships and internal operations of $5 million budget and staff of 27.In my role as Senior Vice President and Technology and Trade, I worked with ITI member companies to develop a strategic vision and advocated ITI's global technology and trade agenda in Washington and foreign capitals. I directed the industry's Congressional lobbying and advocacy to obtain favorable provisions in Free Trade Agreements and China's accession to the WTO. Working closely with member companies, we initiated bilateral talks to eliminate certain technical barriers to the exports of U.S. high tech equipment and services in Japan, Korea and China, and launched a global industry public affairs initiative to build understanding of new transformative Internet and e-commerce services. I was selected to serve as a Member of the Department of Commerce's Private Sector Industry Functional Advisory Committee on e-Commerce.

I joined with a business entrepreneur to form a financial advisory and investment firms focused on infrastructure investments in emerging markets. I developed expertise in international telecommunications, information technology, financial services and project management, and provided strategic communications and business planning advice for start-up ventures in satellite, cellular and smartcard technologies in China, Thailand and Poland.

Launched the corporation's international government affairs division. Prepared extensive analysis of business opportunities in the European Union, which led to the establishment of the corporation's presence in Brussels. Played a principal role on numerous bids and acquisitions, including political risk analysis and identification of market opportunities. Focused advocacy on achieving favorable public policies at the advent of the Internet Age and advancing business interests overseas while minimizing political and financial risks. After leading the U.S. Government inter-agency preparations for the Trade Ministerial meeting that set the Uruguay Round of Multilateral Trade Negotiations into motion, I was fortunate to have received a detail assignment to the Senate Finance Committee Trade Subcommittee to help draft the Trade Act of 1988. My prior work at USTR included leading negotiations and doing groundbreaking policy work on trade in services, anti-counterfeiting, telecommunications and cross-border data flow, resulting in expanded market opportunities for U.S. firms.
