Kathryn Hominick is a Clinician Social Worker in Geriatrics at Nova Scotia Health Authority and an Affiliated Researcher with Geriatric Medicine Research in Halifax. After completing her Master’s in Family Therapy at McGill, she returned to Halifax in 1993 taking a position as a medical social worker. Her introductory social work experience was as a child protection worker in Northern Ontario First Nations communities. Given the fast-paced and often rigid system, Kathryn quickly realized her role to be one of patient/family advocate and interpreter of medical information. Kathryn defines her practice style as having three essential elements; the action and outrage of a social worker, the analysis and long view of a sociologist, with the wonder and appreciation of an artist. Collaborator, bridge builder and lifetime learner, she remains an optimist.
