Gaining invaluable varied experience within a rapidly growing consultancy, carrying out work including reptile translocation, bat dusk & dawn surveys, roost assessments, Phase 1 Habitat Survey, reptile, GCN and dormouse surveys, ECoW duties, data search and report writing, including BNG assessments and use of the Metric, as well as creating maps using QGIS. I have also worked on sustainability reports, NE mitigation licence applications and method statements.

Taken on as a freelance field surveyor following work placement carrying out bat dusk, dawn and activity surveys.

One month's work experience in the Guildford branch of Acorn Ecology - exposure to the day to day workings of an ecological consultancy, with practical experience of surveys and business tasks.• Great Crested Newts – eDNA sampling, bottle trapping, egg search, torch survey and netting• Bats – preliminary, dawn and dusk surveys, transect survey, using static and handheld detectors, use of Analook to interpret results• Reptiles – set out refugia and carried out subsequent checks, helped to install reptile fencing, visited receptor site • Badgers – sett visits to check for activity• Office admin including checking and logging quotes, filing, equipment inventory• Mapping in the field and transferring to Publisher, use of Magic Map for report writing

Taken on as a casual field surveyor for the summer season 2017 and again for 2018. Work has included surveying for GCN, water voles, otters and reptiles, as well as preliminary bat roost inspections of buildings and trees. I also worked on water quality sampling, with invertebrate and diatom collection, across the Thames catchment, in a joint project with Thames Water.

Part of a project to gather data to aid understanding of the correlation between the numbers of oak processionary moths captured in pheromone traps and the presence of caterpillar nests, and to find the outer limits of the breeding population across London and the Home Counties. Involved the systematic close inspection of oak trees for signs of nests, recording exact locations using GPS device, and using mapping and recording apps.
