I appear for both prosecution and defence in a wide range of cases in the Crown Court, the Magistrates’ Court and the Youth Court.My practice includes cases in the following areas:Drug offences – including possession, production and possession with intent to supply;Assault – including common assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, wounding with intent and causing grievous bodily harm with intent;Public Order offences – including using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, affray and violent disorder;Theft and Kindred offences – including theft, handling stolen goods, burglary and robbery (including aggravated robbery);Fraud – including conspiracy to defraud, benefit fraud, and carrying on a fraudulent business;Sexual offences – including sexual assault by penetration, making or producing indecent images of children and/or prohibited sexual images;Offences against children and/or vulnerable people – including ill treatment or wilful neglect;Offences involving dogs – including neglect and/or harm to dogs, dangerous dogs and prohibited dogs;Offences against Courts/Police/Prisons – including perverting the course of justice, witness intimidation, conveying a prohibited article into prison and concealing criminal property;Trading Standards matters – including the sale and distribution of counterfeit goods, unfair trading, and breaches of health and safety regulations (that have in some cases led to fatalities); in addition, prosecutions pursuant to the Environmental Protection Act 1990;Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licence appeals;Proceeds of Crime Act Applications and other ancillary applications – including applications for restraining orders, criminal behaviour orders, exclusion orders, destruction orders, sexual harm prevention orders and serious crime prevention orders.

Pupillage undertaken under the supervision of Lucy Crowther and John Ryan. During my first six I observed highly skilled and impressive counsel conduct all types of criminal and regulatory cases, including matters the Magistrates Court, Crown Court, and the Court of Appeal. I learnt a tremendous amount about court etiquette, making submissions, conducting a full trial and dealing with witnesses. Many of the cases I observed dealt with charges of a sexual nature with young and/or vulnerable witnesses. I observed ground rules hearings and discussed the issues of dealing with such witnesses with my pupil supervisors. I saw how such witnesses were handled whilst giving evidence. Since the start of my second six, I was on my feet almost every day. I was prosecuting and defending in the Magistrates’ Court as well as the Crown Court. I was dealing with first hearings, mentions, applications, trials, newton hearings, sentencing hearings and appeals in both the adult and youth court. Throughout my pupillage I was set research tasks by my pupil supervisors and other members of chambers. These tasks covered all areas of criminal law and also areas of regulatory law. I also conducted research for specific cases, especially when asked to draft an Advice/Opinion on a specific topic. For example, I was asked to conduct research relating to the Egg & Chick (Wales) Regulations 2010 and draft an Advice for the Welsh Assembly Government on the prospects of a proposed prosecution under that Act. Further, I was asked to conduct research and draft an Advice for Carmarthen County Council on the prospects of a proposed prosecution under that the Fraud Act 2006. I also drafted an array of documents such as skeleton arguments, case summaries, chronologies, bad character applications, hearsay applications and other court documents. I learnt how to draft documents in a way that will support oral submissions in court.

Represented the Secretary of State for the Home Department in the Immigration and Asylum Chamber of the First Tier Tribunal. Dealt with immigration, asylum and deportation appeals as well as pre-trial hearings and bail applications.The Qualifications Committee of the Bar Standards Board recognised the work I undertook with the Home Office by awarding me a reduction of pupillage.

During this period I undertook Mini-Pupillages at:(1) St Philips Chambers, Birmingham;(2) 9 Park Place Chambers, Cardiff;(3) Temple Chambers, Cardiff;(4) Thirty Park Place, Cardiff; (5) Cathedral Chambers, Newport; and (6) Apex Chambers, Cardiff.I also Marshalled in the following Courts:(1) The Royal Courts of Justice (The Family Division of the High Court):Marshalled: The Hon. Mr. Justice Moor, The Hon. Mrs. Justice King and The Hon. Mrs. Justice Baron;(2) Cardiff Crown Court:Marshalled: The Hon. Mr. Justice Roderick Evans;(3) The Administrative Court:Marshalled: His Honour Judge Jarman QC;(4) Bristol Magistrates Court:Marshalled: District Judge Brown; and(5) Cardiff County Court:Marshalled: His Honour Judge Masterman, His Honour Judge Chambers QC and His Honour Judge Johns.

I managed my own caseload in the following civil practice areas: employment, contentious probate, professional negligence, building and construction and industrial disease.

Dealt with personal injury cases; interviewed new clients, provided initial advice and sent Protocol Letters of Claim and/or submitted Claim Notification Forms.

Worked on cases attempting to obtain NHS continuing healthcare funding for clients who suffered with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.

Worked at The Albany throughout my academic studies.
