Having volunteered for Ethical Reading since 2017, including helping with marketing communications, I was delighted to be offered a part-time position managing our social media. I'm enjoying spreading the word about what we're doing to make Reading a better place to live, work and do business, and encouraging more people and organisations to join the movement.

I'm responsible for public outreach at this small local charity, which supports Reading families going through difficult times, to help parents give their children the best possible start in life. My role mainly involves keeping the social media up to date, producing publicity materials and arranging our participation in events and activities to raise awareness.

As a freelance copywriter I specialise in helping clients get their message across in a clear, compelling way that engages their target audience. I produce polished written communications for clients, including web content, blog posts, case studies, press releases, white papers and sales collateral. I also write and edit scripts for corporate videos, radio advertisements and presentations. Whatever the medium, I focus on producing content that's impactful, engaging and easy to digest.I work both through agencies and directly for clients in a wide range of sectors, from architecture to water purification. Due to the impacts of the pandemic, Thames Valley Farmers' Market Co-operative made the decision to take market management in-house. I continued to support the market, with my involvement flexing according to the circumstances.

As the manager of my local farmers’ market, I took charge of several aspects of the bi-monthly markets. This included liaising with and booking in traders, planning the layout, supervising on the day and collecting stall fees. More importantly, I was also responsible for marketing the markets, mainly through social media, and organising events to attract more customers. Since I took on the role, regular traders noticed an increase in customers, especially younger shoppers, many of whom mention that they found out about the market through Facebook. Thames Valley Farmers’ Market Co-operative were also pleased with the increase in numbers of traders attending. Reading Farmers' Market was named Best Food Market in the Great British Market Awards 2020, the same year that we celebrated its 20th birthday.Due to the impacts of the pandemic, Thames Valley Farmers' Market Co-operative decided to centralise market management, prompting a change in my role.

The core of this very diverse job was day-to-day admin, acting as PA to the four directors and ensuring the smooth running of the office. I was also responsible for writing copy for clients’ corporate literature and proofreading all the agency’s own sales letters and proposals. This role enabled me to gain valuable experience of writing marketing copy for clients including Avery Dennison, Lotus Development, Xerox and Oracle. I also developed administrative skills that have since proved very useful in running my own business.

Freelancing for local music, culture and entertainment magazines, Blah Blah and The Beacon, as well as national titles like The Guest List, M8 and 2nd Generation. I interviewed artists including Joe Sample (the man behind Randy Crawford's Street Life), house and garage producer MJ Cole, Black Star Liner's Choque Hussein, Asian underground star Talvin Singh and Faithless's Maxi Jazz.

Researching potential new clients, primarily by canvassing subsidiaries of existing clients by phone to get a picture of their IT set-up and requirements. I would then update the sales database accordingly. My team manager also made use of my editorial skills, asking me to proofreading sales proposals.

I was responsible for researching and writing articles for the News, Agency News and New Products sections of this bi-monthly magazine for the language travel industry. This involved chasing leads and interviewing people around the world on the telephone, in French as well as English. I also helped with sub-editing and proofreading other content and maintaining the subscriptions database.

I was responsible for sub-editing four Michelin In Your Pocket travel guides, including substantial cuts, rewriting and fact checking. I also helped to sub-edit British Wildlife magazine and various other nature publications and handled advertising sales for the English Nature land-management magazine, Enact.
