I have been writing non-stop for as long as I can remember. At age 12, I received feedback on a story that I’d shared online and changed everything about my approach. As the anonymous comment put it, my escapist, adolescent self-indulgence had its purpose, but my eye for a story deserved better cultivation. I asked my parents for my first guide to honing and improving my craft as a writer, and never looked back.I received my BA from Sarah Lawrence College, where I took advantage of their open, self-directed curriculum to study history, psychology, literature, religion, and anthropology. During my graduate studies in Eastern Michigan University’s Women’s and Gender Studies program, I used classroom time and my independent research to explore sociology, feminist and social justice theory, cultural criticism, LGBTQ studies, performance studies, and disability studies. Through these disparate interests, I have sought out different perspectives so that I can add depth and nuance to my work. This thoroughness and care earned my admission to the Triota sorority. While I have been fortunate in my education, I have also endured setbacks. In addition to losing family and dear friends, I have battled many bouts of serious illness. Although I have recovered, my health stalled and impeded my graduate studies. I will submit my completed final project and graduate in December 2018.However, I have always remained focused on developing new skills. Among other things, I have: organized and managed community events; mentored my fellow writers and edited their writing; taught myself HTML and CSS; taught myself Windows Office and Mac’s iWork suite; and taught myself to use social media platforms (Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, WordPress) for research and promotion. Despite my lack of conventional experience, I’m adaptable, passionate, motivated, and a quick study, ready to work for you.
