I work closely with the NOFO/NOFI team to continue to update patients' registration in UCSF's APEX system which includes intensive investigation into payor websites, patient coverages and correct filling order processes. I assist with gathering and transporting all clinic materials to clinic sites, including keeping track of supply levels. I help register patients and decipher the reason for their visit or for their concern, I then take vitals and perform a soft hand-off of the patient to the volunteer Physicians that assist at our clinics. Being in the GI Surgical Oncology department I have been in charge of getting authorizations for procedures, consultations, and scans, I have also become a master of faxing/requesting faxes for records or new patient demographics. Working here has given me a database of knowledge for CPT coding, diagnosis codes and the process of new patient intake and also for outgoing referral processes. This position also requires that I be in constant communication with the Nurse Practitioner and also the surgeons that I work under. The flow of communication for scheduling and patient emergencies is vital for this position and has helped me grow to understand the infrastructure of the department in general. Show less
