CurrentMission Statement: The Locker Project connects food-insecure children in Maine with nourishing food to improve their learning capacity, health, and future. We take a whole-family approach to child hunger with programs that aim to be low-barrier, stigma-free and environmentally responsible.Lead staff of six in procuring 40,000 pounds of food each month from supermarkets (rescue), the statewide food bank, and local farms and sharing it with 2500+ children and families at risk of hunger. Distribution partners include public schools in Portland, South Portland, and Westbrook; preschools including Head Start locations in Cumberland County; Boys & Girls Clubs; public housing communities; and other social services agencies.Accomplishments to date:-Successfully adapted original model to COVID-era constraints-Implemented new staffing model-Increased revenue threefold-Expanded partnerships with local agencies that serve children and families
