As manuscript editor, I edited articles written by journalists, academics, and researchers for logic, clarity, readability, impact, and style, for both print and web release. Editing required broad knowledge of the policy landscape and a deep understanding of the relevant issues, as the task varied from cutting an academic paper down to article length to rewriting to ensure the language would be accessible to a lay audience. Responsibilities also included negotiating the approval of edited copy; serving as liaison between authors and the editorial staff; collaborating on the creation of charts and graphs and the selection of illustrations; editing press materials; reviewing and correcting page proofs; and releasing final proofs for production.
