Design engineer specialising in automated systems, with an academic background, commercial experience and pragmatic outlook. I'm a hands-on researcher who enjoys finding out the answers to technical questions in all sorts of fields, but I think the most important thing is to make sure it's the right question.I am particularly interested in how we get from a technical principle to a commercially-viable product. I enjoy working with scientists to understand the possibilities of new technologies, and working out ways to reliably apply those principles, in ways that work well for real-world situations. I have worked with and implemented versions of several different knowledge management and design process tools, and enjoy working with stakeholders to find good paths through sometimes conflicting priorities.
