Marci Flanery says, "I am a delight." This means that I take out the trash and recycle. I perform the mindless must-happen mailings. I learn quickly from my mistake of not entering the gambling losses to the extent of winnings. I conduct one-off forensic audit projects. I call Comcast. I know how to put together and understand a depreciation schedule. I re-organize the supplies for optimal efficiency. I ask to be part of putting a network in place when I have no experience with an endeavor of this type. I ask about office parties and offer to plan them. I train new hires. I keep the office safe and clean. I enter tax return data and tie my entries to the respective IRS forms. I research a question I have before asking Marci for the answer. I make quizzical faces when 13 W-2Gs get dropped on my desk. I research where to take dead batteries. And most importantly, I do not take accounting too seriously.

I was one of 8 University of Washington students hired to be ambassadors of the University of Washington Alumni Association (UWAA). This team acts as the conduit between current students and the UWAA in addition to supporting the many UWAA sponsored events.

UBC was a year-long group project that I did not dread. We all had one shared goal of serving our Foster community. Each brought to the proverbial table a different set of strengths that when combined were unstoppable albeit a little messy and convoluted. I learned to let go and trust others – done is better than perfect. The council is very much behind the scenes and yet heavily involved. I loved the aspect of leading through serving not to mention cultivating long-term relationships with students and staff.
